Sessions At Odds With Intelligence Agencies; Dem Accuses Comey Of Obstructing Investigation

Jeff Sessions was on Fox News tonight and he just said that he did not know if the Russians interfered in the election in order to help Donald Trump get elected. Tucker Carlson asked, "Did the campaign believe that the Russian government, the Putin government, favored Trump over Clinton in this race?" and Sessions responded, "I have never been told that". Carlson continued, "Do you think they did?” to which Sessions said, "I don’t have any idea, Tucker, you’d have to ask them."

That flies in the face of the unanimous conclusion of all 17 intelligence agencies of the United States. And the fact that the Attorney General of the United States is still disputing this fact is astounding. The Trump administration seems incapable of admitting what everyone knows and that is the Russians did intervene for Trump. The obvious response would be to say that yes, it does appear that the Russians did favor our campaign but we had nothing to do with that. The fact that they are incapable of making that statement only fuels the belief that they did, in fact, have plenty to do with the Russian meddling. The more they deny reality, the worse the story will get.

Meanwhile, James Comey is once again playing favorites by refusing to discuss his investigation with any members of apparently both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees. Tonight on Rachel Maddow, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, virtually accused Comey of obstructing their investigation and raised the possibility of having to subpoena Comey to testify. The Republicans will never allow that to happen but the fact that Schiff even brings up that possibility shows the level of his frustration with Comey. I am becoming more and more convinced that the FBI is involved in Trump's Russian connections starting way back in the early 2000s and that Comey's blatant favoritism for Trump during the election and his obstruction of any investigation of Trump's Russian ties is somehow related to that. Josh Marshall has a story today that explores the nexus of the Russian mob, Russian oligarchs, the Trump Organization, and the FBI and it is well worth a read.
